UMNO members turned up at Najib Razak’s home in Taman Duta today in a show of support for the embattled former prime minister.

Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah, upon exiting Najib’s home, told reporters gathered outside that investigations into the former party president must be separate from the 1Malaysia Development Bhd probe as the cases are not related.

“If the issue concerns 1MDB, then we must focus on 1MDB. Don’t bring other issues in.

“The Malaysia of today puts out good values that can be seen by future generations.

“Anything that happens today must be managed well. Justice must be done to the former prime minister,” he said, adding that Youth members had made the trip from Pahang to support Najib.

Shahar also said he hopes Malaysians do not make judgments based on what is being spread on social media.

Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, former deputy defence minister Mohd Johari Baharum and former Kedah menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, all from Umno, were also at Najib’s home today to show their support.

The former prime minister’s lawyer, Harpal Singh Grewal, was present.

The raid on the private residence, which began on Wednesday, is mostly completed. Police are now trying to drill open a 20-year-old safe in the house.

During a press conference yesterday, Harpal said Najib is being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act. – May 18, 2018.
