THE police must not act on police reports lodged against individuals who have insulted the prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad tweeted today.
Dr Mahathir said he disagreed with action being taken against those who criticised him, and added that he would look into reviewing laws on penalties against those critical of the government when Parliament was in session.
“I disagree with the actions taken against those who criticise me. I have informed the police about this.
“Such laws will be reviewed when Parliament convenes,” he tweeted from his account at @chedetofficial.
Several Pakatan Harapan leaders and MPs, as well as civil society groups, have decried the arrest of a man in Langkawi after police reports were lodged against him for criticising Dr Mahathir.
In Perak, members of Bersatu, the party which Dr Mahathir chairs, also lodged police reports over insults against the prime minister on Facebook. – May 18, 2018.
