Little pity for Najib, Rosmah on social media as raids continue

SOCIAL media users are having none of the sympathy pro-Najib Razak bloggers and Umno supporters are pushing for the defeated former prime minister and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, whom they say should be spared from harsh police treatment in the holy month of Ramadan.

Public scorn towards the couple persists as police raids on Najib’s private properties continue.

Commenting on the Kaki Share Facebook page that posted a live Astro Awani news broadcast of the raid at a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur last night, Lina Diana said the couple did not deserve pity.

“Why pity Najib? Pity those who don’t have enough on their plates because of him,” she wrote.

Another Facebook user, Mohd Hafiz Sukri, commented: “How many handbags did you buy? The people have to think two or three times about eating KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken).”

Najib and his Barisan Nasional administration have been blamed for the rising cost of living since the implementation of the goods and services tax on April 1, 2015.

On Wednesday night, police raided Najib’s home on Jalan Langgak Duta, his old office in Putrajaya, and other properties linked to him, including units at the Pavilion Residences, where 284 boxes of handbags, 72 bags of cash in various denominations, watches, and jewellery were seized last night.

The live broadcast on Kaki Share was viewed over 353,000 times, shared 7,000 times, and attracted over 10,000 comments targeted at Najib, Rosmah, and the authorities.

Nor Rodziah Syakina, who expressed disbelief in the number of handbags seized, said: “All those are handbags? I have only three or four that I hardly get to use. She can fill four lorries with handbags? When can she use all of them?”

Hanie Ariel made a reference in her comment to a remark Rosmah made in 2015 at the launch of the Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB2) investment for children under the Permata Negara programme, where she advised parents to get their children to save money from their youth.

“Rosmah saved since she was a child, and also invested in ASB. She used the dividends to buy Hermes handbags,” she said.

Amilia Anuar asked in a sarcastic post: “Why confiscate all of Kak Mah’s (Rosmah’s) things? Those are her monthly anniversary gifts from Pak Jib (Najib). Of course there are many. They have been married for years.”

Aishah Ishak commented that Najib was a “very weak person” used by those around him, including his own wife, children, and fellow ministers to get rich.

Mild Ijan said many more Umno and BN leaders, including those in PAS, should be investigated by the authorities now because the people wanted a clean and just country.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has to take its investigations overseas too. Sources said they had smuggled many things abroad over the years. MACC, please be alert,” Nazirul Amin said.

The newly elected Pakatan Harapan government in Putrajaya has vowed to reinvestigate the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal and reform government institutions. – May 18, 2018.
