THE Sarawak Report and Medium are no longer blocked, the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission said today.
“Decisions to block websites are reviewed if there is reason, or the criteria to block them are no longer in line with the current situation. As such, the block will be lifted.
“In the case of the Sarawak Report and Medium, there is no need to block these sites any longer, now that the report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad has been made public,” MCMC said in a statement today.
The Auditor General’s report on 1MDB was released from the Official Secrets Act earlier this week as one of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s early moves in reopening investigations into the state investor and former prime minister Najib Razak.
Access to the Sarawak Report and Medium had been blocked under Najib’s administration at the height of allegations of corruption against him involving 1MDB.
MCMC also addressed complaints regarding elections results website live.undi.info, which digital transparency group Sinar Project found had been blocked by TM and Maxis on the night of May 9 as GE14 results were being released.
Maxis subsequently said such allegations should be directed to MCMC.
MCMC said that it was acting on complaints received from the public that some of the results published on live.undi.info were inaccurate.
“However, the block was withdrawn after reviewing all the content published on the site, in view of the fact that the criteria used to decide on the block are no longer relevant in the current situation,” the commission said. – May 18, 2018.
