PETALING Jaya MP Maria Chin has joined other Pakatan Harapan colleagues in cautioning Dr Mahathir Mohamad against breaking PH’s election manifesto that the prime minister should not hold additional ministerial posts.
“I am glad to note that some PH leaders have acknowledged their oversight and look forward to the government remaining committed to restructuring the role and functions of the Prime Minister’s Department,” she said.
Maria said she agreed with senior PH leader Lim Kit Siang’s concerns that the prime minister was taking on an additional ministerial post.
Working a punishing schedule to institute changes as fast as possible, Dr Mahathir yesterday said he would also take on the post of education minister.
The cabinet is being formed slowly as the prime minister assesses names put forth by the different PH parties to fit a smaller cabinet compared with the previous administration.
Dr Mahathir aims to have no more than a 25- to 30-member cabinet and has said he will name the first 10 ministers by this week.
The others are Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also women and welfare minister, Lim Guan Eng (finance), Muhyiddin Yassin (home) and Mohamad Sabu (defence). – May 18, 2018.
