AT this morning’s presidential council meeting, Pakatan Harapan leaders appear to have overlooked the coalition’s manifesto that the prime minister may hold only one cabinet post.

A PH source said no one objected when Dr Mahathir assigned the Education portfolio to himself.

“Everyone did not object as they thought that he was only unable to also hold the Finance portfolio as prime minister,” the source told Malaysia Decides.

In the PH manifesto, the prime minister is limited to two terms in office and to the one ministerial post of prime minister.

“The prime minister will not simultaneously hold other ministerial posts, especially the post of minister of finance,” it states.

Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said PH leaders would raise the issue with Dr Mahathir.

“If the wording of the manifesto is such, we will remind Dr Mahathir of it,” he said.

Dr Mahathir has filled five cabinet posts with eight more to come.

He said the remaining portfolios would be assigned to two members each from Bersatu, DAP, PKR, and Amanah.

Dr Mahathir said if everything went according to plan, the ministers will take the oath of office on Monday. – May 17, 2018.
