THE Council of Eminent Persons has established a committee to look into matters relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
The committee members are former attorney-general Abu Talib Othman; PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman; Naqiz &
Partners senior partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar; Otoritas Jasa Keuangan Indonesia (Indonesian financial services authority) senior adviser Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) founder Cynthia Gabriel.
“Until and unless the issue of 1MDB is resolved, there will be questions that undermine public confidence in the government and its Institutions,” the council said in a statement today.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday said 1MDB owed more than RM42 billion.
“There are more wrongdoings that you and I and the public know about that happened in 1MDB”, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Police yesterday raided former prime minister Najib Razak’s homes and offices. In an operation that lasted over 12 hours, police seized documents and personal items, including handbags and jewellery, reports said. – May 17, 2018.
