IT is police’s duty to carry out investigations regardless of the person involved, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following searches conducted on premises linked to Najib Razak since last night.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said police should have enough reason to carry out such raids.
“That is the police’s job. I don’t know. We will investigate and take action against all those who are involved (in criminal activities),” he said at the Bersatu office in Petaling Jaya today.
Police’s search of Najib’s home in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur, is ongoing.
Najib’s lawyer, Harpal Singh Gerawal, earlier today said the former prime minister is being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The police have open files on 1Malaysia Development Bhd and SRC Bhd and have seized boxes containing jewellery, shoes and other personal effects from his residence. – May 17, 2018.
