DR Wan Azizah Wan Ismail turned down the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s offer of the prime minister’s office, said Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR de facto leader said she refused the job as the Pakatan Harapan coalition had agreed on Dr Mahathir Mohamad being the prime minister designate.
“The Agong repeated the offer many times; Why do you not want to be prime minister? You have the most number of seats (in Parliament). Do you want to be PM?
“But, Azizah said no. She said there was an agreement that Dr Mahathir would be PM.
“The Agong was impressed. He said rarely has any politician refused such an offer to keep an agreement,” Anwar said to cheers from the 6,000 at the rally marking his pardon and release from jail last night.
Instead, Dr Wan Azizah asked the Agong for the release of her husband from Sungai Buloh prison, said Anwar.
The former deputy prime minister said he supported the PH leadership even though he does not have an official position in government.
“You (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) go ahead. I will support you. I do not even need to have a cabinet post.” – May 17, 2018.
