ANWAR Ibrahim has vouched for Lim Guan Eng, saying he was well suited to be the finance minister.
The PKR de facto leader said Lim had done a lot to improve the economy in Penang and people should not be angry that the finance portfolio was given to a non-Malay.
“You are angry that his name is Lim Guan Eng. If it’s Mat Sabu, even if he whacks billions of ringgit, it will be okay.
“But, I tell you this. Lim has brought up Penang’s name and economy,” Anwar said during his speech in front of a crowd of about 6,000 last night.
The former deputy prime minister also warned Lim to be wary of being used by opportunists.
“It is not easy to be the finance minister. There will be lions, bears, elephants and snakes that will come to you. Be careful, Guan Eng.”
Anwar said Lim was given the finance portfolio because his government in Penang practised transparency in its contracts and open tenders for the state’s projects.
“That is why we put him (Lim) there. He ensured that all the contracts in Penang were awarded via open tenders,” he said. – May 17, 2018.
