Missing pastor's wife appeals to Pakatan govt to relook probe

THE wife of missing Pastor Raymond Koh has made a personal appeal to the Pakatan Harapan government to relook investigations into her husband’s disappearance.

Susanna Liew, who has been seeking answers since February last year, made this request after a police informer allegedly revealed that police were involved in the abductions of Koh and activist Amri Che Mat.

Amri’s wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, claimed that a police informer had told her that the abductions were carried out by officers from the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.

Liew now hopes that PH and the new home minister – Muhyiddin Yassin – will look into the disappearances of Koh and Amri, as well as Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife, Ruth, which have sparked local and international interest.

“We had suspected police’s involvement as we were not getting answers and proper updates. That’s why we brought the matter to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam),” said Liew.

Norhayati lodged a police report on Tuesday, claiming that a Special Branch officer had visited her home in Kangar, Perlis, last Saturday with information that Koh and Amri’s abductions were the work of the Special Branch in Bukit Aman.

Liew said based on closed-circuit television camera footage of her husband’s abduction, it is believed that police were involved.

“From the footage, it looked quite clear that it was a Special Branch job. So when this person (informer) came out, it kind of confirmed our suspicion.”

Koh was abducted in Petaling Jaya on February 13 last year by some 15 men in three black SUVs.

The abduction was caught on CCTVs, and has been described as a well-coordinated operation.

Liew said police were not forthcoming in the Suhakam inquiry.

“They either said, ‘can’t remember’ or ‘can’t present evidence without approval from the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ (during the public inquiry).

“They came up with all sorts of excuses to prevent the truth from coming out.”

The Suhakam panel aims to determine whether Koh’s abduction, as well as the disappearance of the three others in 2016, are enforced disappearances carried out by the state. – May 17, 2018.
