THE goods and services tax will be zero-rated as of June 1, the Finance Ministry said in a statement today.
The ministry said it would cover all locally manufactured and imported goods and services, while only items that were GST-exempted would not be zero-rated.
The statement said that the ruling would be enforced throughout the country until further notice, and said all businesses were to adhere to the new ruling.
“Businesses also must ensure that the prices of goods and services that have been set are in accordance to the Price Control Act and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” said the ministry.
The highly-unpopular 6% GST was implemented on April 1, 2015.
In its manifesto, Pakatan Harapan had vowed to abolish the tax if it came into power. – May 16, 2018.
