SINGAPOREAN Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will pay Dr Mahathir Mohamad a visit on Saturday, reported Todayonline.
Lee announced the visit in Parliament, where he described the 14th general election, which saw Barisan Nasional losing power after 60 years at the helm, as a “momentous development” for Malaysia.
“As Malaysia’s closest neighbour, we need to pay close attention to our relationship with them.
“The two countries have deep historical, economic and people-to-people ties. We hope Malaysia is stable and prosperous.”
Lee said Singapore and Malaysia enjoyed good ties when Dr Mahathir first served as prime minister, from 1981 to 2003.
“We have worked with Dr Mahathir and several of his teams before. We completed several joint projects when Dr Mahathir was last PM, including the Second Link in Tuas.”
Lee’s remarks came as PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was freed today, after receiving a royal pardon.
Anwar had been serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomy.
Lee said he was Anwar’s counterpart as deputy prime minister when the latter was last in office, from 1993 to 1998. – May 16, 2018.
