ANWAR Ibrahim has no personal grudge against former prime minister Najib Razak for jailing him, but the latter must answer to Malaysians for the things he has done, the de facto PKR leader said today.
“I have forgiven Najib. No personal malice there, but on the issues of injustice against the people, he has to answer them,” Anwar said at a press conference at his home in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, hours after he was pardoned and released.
On whether Najib would be charged for the crimes he had allegedly committed, Anwar said the people should allow the investigations to take place.
Najib is linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.
He denied any wrongdoing, but new information revealed evidence showing that money was transferred to his account.
It was also revealed that the former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was preparing a charge sheet to prosecute Najib in court, but his services were terminated by the government due to ‘ill health’.
Anwar also talked about China’s One Belt One Road Initiative, saying that he agreed with Dr Mahathir Mohamad that they were not against China.
“We are not against Chinese investment or the Chinese government, but we are concerned about how the deals were being done. We only want to protect the interest of the government,” he said.
Pakatan Harapan said in its manifesto that it would look into Chinese investments in Malaysia to determine whether the contracts will be stopped or reevaluated. – May 16, 2018.
