FORMER attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail had been ready to charge former prime minister Najib Razak when he was removed from the post, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

The prime minister said Gani told him this when the two met yesterday.

“He claimed that he had been preparing to charge Najib. That morning, he was deprived of his position.”

Dr Mahathir said there will not be any “deal” struck with Najib if he is found guilty.

“There will definitely be no deal. Follow the rule of law, irrespective of personalities.”

He said Najib is not under house arrest, only barred from leaving the country.

“As far as I know, he is (just) not allowed to leave the country.” – May 16, 2018.
