Don’t seek revenge on BN supporters, says Felda settlers’ group

SUPPORTERS of the new Pakatan Harapan government must not seek revenge on Felda settlers who supported the Barisan Nasional coalition, said a group representing second-generation Felda settlers.

Mazlan Aliman, the president of Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan, said although PH supporters had been discriminated against in the past, the results of the 14th general election should not be used as a means to seek revenge.

“Good morals must be displayed. This will make the people respect the new PH government.

Avoid taking aggressive and threatening actions for the greater good,” Mazlan said in a statement today.

“Felda settlers should calm down and carry on their daily routine while waiting for PH to announce its next step.”

Mazlan urged PH supporters and activists to abide by the proper processes and policies in working with Felda organisations, such as the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Women’s Association Movement, and others.

“Unity and harmony among the settlers, the new generation with JKKK, Felda management and organisations in Felda is crucial to avoid unnecessary tension,” he said.

More than half of the 51 federal seats in Felda settlements rejected BN in the recent polls.

Of the 26 seats that fell, 19 went to PH, while PAS picked up seven. The remaining 25 went to BN.

The non-BN parties had more than quadrupled their share of Felda seats from six in 2013 to 26.

In 2013, then-opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat won Dungun, Kulai, Raub, Temerloh, Kuala Nerus, and Sungai Siput, with BN winning the remaining 45. – May 16, 2018.
