THE Warisan-led Sabah cabinet is expected to be sworn in tomorrow at the Istana Negeri, after days of intense brokering following the May 9 general election.
Chief Minister Shafie Apdal has been tightlipped about his cabinet selection, but sources close to the Chief Minister’s Office told Malaysia Decides Sulabayan assemblyman Jaujan Sambokong would be among the three deputy chief ministers.
Jaujan is known to be Shafie’s confidante.
The remaining DCM posts may be filled by PKR and DAP, but Shafie could also opt for an Upko assemblyman to represent the Kadazan Dusun Murut and Rungus.
The Chinese quota may be filled by either DAP or PKR.
“For now, everything is still speculation. The chief minister may change his mind at the last minute,” the source said.
As for the federal cabinet, the source said Shafie would likely name Penampang MP Darell Leiking and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau among the three members.
Shafie is also expected to overhaul redundant ministries. He has repeatedly said he would establish two new ministries in Sabah, naming the education and innovation ministry as one of the two.
During the previous administration under Musa Aman, the education portfolio is the purview of federal government, but the new administration will have it under state jurisdiction. It is one of the 13 main thrusts in Warisan’s demand for the federal government to return Sabah’s rights as per Malaysia Agreement 1963. – May 15, 2018.
