Manja Ismail is Media Prima TV news and current affairs managing editor

The Malaysian Insight

MANJA Ismail has been appointed news and current affairs group managing editor at Media Prima Television Network, following the summary removal of Ashraf Abdullah yesterday.

Manja, who began his career in Malay-language daily Berita Harian, received his letter of appointment today.

Employees were notified of the appointment by an email sighted by Malaysia Decides this evening.

Media Prima’s removal of Ashraf is seen as a pre-emptive move to appease the new masters in Putrajaya.

Since Dr Mahathir was sworn in as the prime minister, supporters of the new government have drawn up shortlists of individuals who should be punished for doing the Najib regime’s dirty work.

Ashraf’s name is high on several such lists because of  news programme Bulletin Utama’s hatchet job on Dr Mahathir and other critics of Najib Razak.

Since Pakatan Harapan took charge, however, Media Prime has given the one-time opposition coalition given extensive coverage and air time.

TV3 and sister stations NTV 7, Channel 9 and 8TV are also reporting on the Umno crisis.

Yesterday New Straits Times CEO Jalil Hamid told a town hall meeting the NSTP group of publications had always provided fair and balanced news, in response to allegations the newspapers had blacked out the opposition during GE14. – May 15, 2018.
