FORMER attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail is meeting Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today, as speculation mounts that Najib Razak will be charged for crimes related to the 1Malaysia Development Board scandal.

Gani had led the investigations into the 1MDB scandal, before he was removed from office by the former prime minister.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh has also arrived at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.

One of the police officers accompanying him was also seen pushing a trolley bag believed to contain documents related to 1MDB.

The Star had reported today that Dr Mahathir was confident prosecutors would be able to build a strong case to charge Najib over graft claims linked to 1MDB.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said they were looking into the issues with information and documents from senior officers.

“We think that we will have a case against him within a short while. We will be able to charge him,” he said, speaking via video conference to The Wall Street Journal CEO Council Meeting in Tokyo. – May 15, 2018.
