No hurry to make Anwar prime minister, says Wan Azizah

The Malaysian Insight

DEPUTY Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has given her assurance that Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as the country’s eighth prime minister will not take place anytime soon, to allow the current government under Dr Mahathir Mohamad to run smoothly before any change of power happens.

“Like we said yesterday, we want the government under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to run smoothly and deliver the changes that we want first. So Anwar’s appointment will not be done in haste,” she said when met at Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital this evening.

Dr Wan Azizah, who was all smiles today, also said that Anwar’s friends from Jakarta had come to visit, including former Indonesian health minister Fahmi Idris.

She was responding to the comments made by the head of the Council of Elders, Daim Zainuddin, published in Singaporean daily The Straits Times.

In the article, Daim said it was foolish to make Anwar prime minister as soon as he returned to Parliament, as it was not the time for an immediate change of leadership.

He said the people would not trust Pakatan Harapan if they broke their promises to the people. – May 15, 2018.
