PARLIAMENT has to endorse any move to scrap the goods and services tax (GST), said Council of Elders spokesman Kadir Jasin.
“It is not as easy as that. We can, for instance, do away with GST without badly affecting government finances. (However) We cannot just do it overnight because GST came about through an act of Parliament, so we have to go back to Parliament to change or withdraw it altogether,” he said at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital today.
Kadir was visiting PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim there.
Throngs of visitors were seen in front of the entrance towards Anwar’s room waiting for their turn to meet Anwar, who is designated as the country’s Eight prime minister by Pakatan Harapan.
From acquaintances from as far as Indonesia to the most loyal supporters of PKR, many have been waiting for hours just to meet and greet Anwar.
“I’ve gotten my shirt signed by our deputy prime minister, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and by our future prime minister Anwar Ibrahim,” said Din, one of the Reformasi 98 group, who had been loyally supporting Anwar and PKR since 1998.
Anwar is expected to be released from prison tomorrow and will soon receive full royal pardon from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
The full pardon will allow Anwar to actively participate in politics, a condition he has to meet before Dr Mahathir Mohamad can hand over the reins to him to become Malaysia’s next prime minister. – May 15, 2018.
