BERSATU has submitted its list of candidates for minister and deputy minister positions to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also party chairman.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, however, did not reveal how many from the party’s pool of 13 lawmakers were on the list.

“I have presented the list. We only have 13 MPs. The list is not long, after you minus me, Dr Mahathir and Mukhriz,” he told reporters at Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana today.

Dr Mahathir’s son Mukhriz is already Kedah menteri besar while Muhyiddin has been named home minister.

Muhyiddin, who spent about an hour meeting Dr Mahathir today, said it was entirely up to the prime minister to select the right candidates from Bersatu to head the ministries.

He said his only hope was for the cabinet to be formed quickly.

“It is very important that we proceed with it as soon as possible because we have been given the mandate to govern. The people are waiting to see how we will work for them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Decides also understands that PH component party DAP has also submitted its list of candidates to Dr Mahathir.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, the incoming finance minister, and his delegation met Dr Mahathir this morning for about an hour before leaving at 10am.

Their meeting was followed by Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad, who arrived to see the 92-year-old two-time prime minister at 10.30am.

However, neither the DAP team nor Madinah stopped to talk to reporters who were waiting outside the building. The media was then informed that Dr Mahathir would only hold a press conference at 2pm tomorrow.

Dr Mahathir previously said he would announce the appointments for the 10 key ministries in his new government, before adding more ministries to make a total of 25 to 30.

Apart from Muhyiddin and Lim, he only named one other minister, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who will be in charge of defence. – May 15, 2018.
