MUKHRIZ Mahathir denied that the sultan of Brunei had given Malaysia US$1 billion to revive the country’s economy, saying the Facebook post announcing the donation was an administrative error.

In a post today on the Mukhriz Mahathir FC Facebook page, the Kedah menteri besar said that Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had given the funds to Putrajaya and that they didn’t have to pay it back.

“Apologies, the (news of the) contribution from the sultan of Brunei is not true. It was a mistake from the administrative side,” Mukhriz said in a post.

Yesterday, the sultan made a surprise visit to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.

The purpose of the visit was unknown, but he was accompanied by his son, Prince Mateen Bolkiah. – May 15, 2018.
