TREASURY Secretary-General Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah’s contract with the government has been cut short by nine months and will end on June 14 instead of March 6, 2019, Chief Secretary to the government Dr Ali Hamsa has announced.
Irwan has also been removed from his duties as Treasury secretary-general for the remainder of his contract and will be placed in the Public Services Department effective today until June 13, Ali said in a statement that was posted on his Twitter account.
Irwan is among top civil servants who are expected to be investigated or removed under the new Pakatan Harapan federal government, which has pledged to stamp out corruption and resolve scandals surrounding state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
He incurred the wrath of PH and Dr Mahathir after he graced the “#LangkawiHebat” concert at the same time when the PH chairman was having his final ceramah on the eve of polling day, just 4km away.
It was reported that the order to hold the concert came from the Finance Ministry.
Earlier, screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation between Irwan and the founder of Women Entrepreneur Network Association Malaysia (WENA) Nadira Yusoff where he chided her for openly supporting Dr Mahathir went viral.
It began with a post from Nadira, who expressed admiration of Dr Mahathir (specifically, of his energy, spirits and commitment).
Her post, however, was characterised as “uncalled for by an individual receiving all benefits from the government” by Irwan, who threatened action against her.
Irwan is also chairman of the 1MDB board, a position he assumed in August 2012.
The Finance Ministry is backing debts and bonds issued by 1MDB. – May 14, 2018.
