PUTRAJAYA is confident of being able to track down billionaire financier Low Taek Jho, who is believed to be involved in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, said prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government has not sought help from international agencies yet, but local intelligence are quite confident of placing Low’s location.
“We have not requested but we roughly know where he is,” he said during a press conference in Putrajaya today.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman assured the people that the government will take action on Jho Low and all those found guilty in the 1MDB scandal, where billions in government funds are believed to have been misappropriated.
“Leave it to us. I don’t go and catch people. There are agencies that are in charge of catching people,” Dr Mahathir said.
Previously, the 92-year old said that he was going to repatriate money stolen from 1MDB from several countries including America, Singapore and Switzerland.
Low, who is a close associate of former prime minister Najib Razak, is believed to be a central figure in the financial scandal, which was dubbed as “kleptocracy at its worst by US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions. – May 14, 2018.
