THE Finance Ministry said a letter bearing its crest purportedly announcing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be abolished from June 1 is fake.
The ministry, in a statement, said the new Pakatan Harapan government had not yet set a date for the move.
“All traders registered to collect GST must continue to abide by current law,” said the ministry’s statement. It was also posted on its social media platforms.
The fake statement had claimed that GST would be abolished effective June 1 and that no new tax would be imposed for the first two years under the PH federal government.
Scrapping the unpopular tax within its first 100 days was one of the promises PH made in its election manifesto. – May 14, 2018.
