PKR will not stand against Dr Mahathir, says Wan Azizah

PKR will not stand in the way of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s choice of cabinet members, said president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also deputy prime minister, denied when asked if there were objections from PKR over the selection of the ministers.

“That is the prime minister’s prerogative. We have offered our names from each party,” Dr Wan Azizah said at the Perdana Leadership Foundation today.

PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli had previously objected to Dr Mahathir’s decision to name three cabinet ministers, claiming the party was not consulted.

His dispute was that there was no PKR representation in the top three positions. His statement was supported by PKR’s Subang lawmaker Wong Chen.

There was a backlash against the two as Malaysians felt they were undermining Dr Mahathir and his quest to save Malaysia.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was named as finance minister, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as home minister, and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu as defence minister.

DAP and Amanah leaders, however, denied Rafizi’s accusation, saying they were consulted before Dr Mahathir made the announcement.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said such statements would not be made from now on to prevent infighting.

“That was the first and last (Rafizi’s statement). We are prepared to move on,” Saifuddin said. – May 14, 2018.
