Police ready to investigate former IGP Khalid

POLICE will investigate former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar if there is a case or report against him, Berita Harian reported today.

“There is no reason to investigate him for now. But if there is basis or a police report, we will investigate,” said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun after opening the Jempol district police station today.

Khalid has said he was ready to be investigated for any issues prior to the 14th General Election.

Khalid was speculated to be called together with attorney-general Apandi Ali on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

Khalid was head of the police during the 1MDB investigations, and Apandi cleared former prime minister Najib Razak of any wrongdoing in January 2016.

Apandi had said that Najib had returned US$620 million to the Saudis in 2013, out of the US$681 million that was deposited into his personal accounts between March 22, 2013, and April 10, 2013.

The Wall St Journal reported that the money had originated from a British Virgin Islands company and went through Falcon Private Bank in Singapore. Falcon Bank has since been found guilty of money laundering by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and shut down.

Under Khalid, a special task force had been set up to investigate 1MDB but no action had been taken as the file was still open when he retired in August 2017.

Meanwhile, Fuzi said the police was monitoring but did not raid Najib’s residence in Kuala Lumpur.

“We are just monitoring to ensure the security around the area,” said Fuzi. – May 14, 2018.
