Ex-MACC officer lodges graft reports against Najib

A RETIRED Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer lodged two reports against former prime minister Najib Razak today, saying now was the right time to do so.

Abdul Razak Idris, 69, a former investigation and intelligence director, lodged one report against Najib for alleged abuse of office to obtain gratification, and another for alleged ownership of unexplained wealth.

Met outside the MACC office in Putrajaya today, Idris said he was also considering lodging reports with the police under the penal code against certain civil services for preventing investigations and property forfeitures.

“I am lodging the reports at MACC today so that MACC can take swift action,” he was quoted saying by The Star.

Razak was also asked why he chose this course of action now and not earlier, to which he said action would not have been taken earlier.

This comes as MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad resigned from the post today, after helming the job since August 2016 amid controversy over an extramarital affair. He handed in his resignation to the chief secretary of the government this morning. – May 14, 2018.
