Kon Yeow sworn in as Penang CM

CHOW Kon Yeow was sworn in as the chief minister in Pakatan Harapan-led Penang today. He is the fifth chief minister.

The three-term Padang Kota assemblyman, who is also Tanjong MP, was sworn in at 11.10am before state governor Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas at Seri Mutiara. 

Chow, 59, is the most senior and highest ranked Penang DAP leader. He has been state party chairman since 1999. 

Also present at the swearing-in were fellow PH assemblymen and former chief minister Lim Guan Eng, who is leaving Penang for Putrajaya as finance minister. 

Penang PH secured the state for the third term with a landslide victory on May 9, winning 37 out of the total 40 state seats. In the last polls, PH held 30 seats. 

Among PH, DAP remains the biggest winner with 19 state seats. 

The opposition Barisan Nasional holds two and PAS one state seat. – May 14, 2018.
