MACC chief resigns today

The Malaysian Insight

THE inevitable happened today when Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Dzulkifli Ahmad tendered his resignation.

He knew that this was the only option for him. Stay on, and he would have been sacked.

All eyes are now on whether Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali and Secretary-General of Treasury Mohamad Irwan Serigar Abdullah will also resign.

Dzulkifli handed in his resignation letter to Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa today, who confirmed receiving said letter.

Ali said a replacement for the MACC top job had not been decided on yet.

“His replacement is still in process,” said Ali, when met at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.

Dzulkifli, 50, who is on leave for now, held a five-year contract starting from August 1, 2016, replacing Abu Kassim Mohamed.

The fate of Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali is still pending, and he will issue a statement, said Ali. – May 14, 2018.
