ANWAR Ibrahim will be released tomorrow after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong chairs the pardons board meeting.
His wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the king would chair the meeting tomorrow for Anwar’s immediate release.
“Anwar should be released after that,” she told Malaysia Decides.
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also deputy prime minister, said Anwar’s pardon papers were already signed, but the meeting still had to happen.
“Procedure still has to be followed,” she said.
De facto Pakatan Harapan leader Anwar was charged with sodomy in 2008. He was tried in 2010 and 2011, but was acquitted in 2012
In March 2014, the acquittal was overturned and he was sentenced to a five-year jail term.
When asked if there would be celebrations for Anwar’s release, Dr Wan Azizah said the people would want it.
“The rakyat will celebrate automatically! Alhamdulillah!” – May 14, 2018.
