Mavcom to investigate Tony Fernandes’ allegations

The Malaysian Insight

THE Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) is investigating allegations by AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes that he was summoned by the commission and told to cancel 120 extra flights to bring voters home for GE14.

“Mavcom considers these claims serious allegations. We have immediately commenced an investigation into these claims,” a Mavcom spokesman said in a statement.

In a Facebook video today, Fernandes said he was summoned by Mavcom some 24 hours after the announcement of the extra flights and was told to cancel them.

Fernandes was responding to the backlash he had received from Malaysians after posting a video showing his support for the Najib Razak administration.

He had also explained he had been pressured by the former prime minister’s office to remove AirAsia X chairman Rafidah Aziz, who was campaigning for Pakatan Harapan.

Fernandes added that he came out with the first video to placate the government, adding that it was a grave error in judgment. – May 13, 2018.
