BN, Perikatan in straight fight for Nenggiri

NOMINATIONS for the Nenggiri by-election has closed, setting up a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

Rizwadi arrived at the Dewan Perdana at 8.50am, escorted by PN deputy chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and Kelantan Bersatu chairman Kamaruddin Mohd Nor. About 800 supporters arrived with them.

Azmawi showed up minutes later with an 800-strong crowd of supporters and party leaders, among whom were Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani, BN election director for Nenggiri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, and Kelantan BN chairman Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

The two candidates will campaign for the next two weeks before polling day on August 17.

The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat, held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.

The electoral roll for the Nenggiri state seat has 20,245 registered voters. – August 3, 2024
