Batu MP Prabakaran joins PKR

THE youngest parliamentarian ever elected in Malaysia, P. Prabakaran, has submitted his membership form to join PKR, the party of former Batu MP Chua Tian Chang, at an event in Taman Dato Senu today.

“It’s not just the PKR branch that feels proud but PKR Youth as well, which can benefit from the experience of this young man,” Chua, better known as Tian Chua, said of the 22-year-old Batu MP at the event.

Prabakaran, a law student, had said during his campaign that he had opted to stand as an independent to voice out youth issues.

“My agenda is the same as Pakatan Harapan’s. But I would also like to focus more on the younger generation,” he said.

Chua said he would help Prabakaran in servicing Batu constituents.

Prabakaran won the seat in a four-cornered fight by a majority of 24,438 votes over the his main rival from Barisan Nasional, Dominic Lau.

PKR endorsed Prabakaran after its candidate, Chua, was disqualified on nomination day over a RM2,000 fine for insulting a police officer.

Chua is taking legal action against the Election Commission for the disqualification as earlier court rulings as well as a decision by the Dewan Rakyat speaker held that an MP could only be disqualified if the fine exceeded RM2,000. – May 13, 2018
