PENANG DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow is expected to be sworn in as the state’s fifth chief minister on Monday, reported Bernama.
The report, citing a party assemblyman, said DAP had planned the matter much earlier.
“In all likelihood, he (Chow) will be the person to take the oath (as chief minister) on Monday. But in politics, anything can happen, so let’s wait for the official announcement by the party.”
He said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was today announced as the new Pakatan Harapan government’s finance minister, had indicated numerous times that Chow would succeed him as chief minister.
He added that Lim had said, during an announcement on 14th general election candidates, the decision to field Chow in the Tanjong parliamentary and Padang Kota state seats was part of the party’s succession plan.
He said Penang’s new exco line-up could include at least two new faces, but “nothing has been finalised”.
The assemblyman said the incoming chief minister will be sworn in by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas before the exco line-up is announced on Wednesday.
Invitations have been sent out for the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to be held at 10am on Monday in Sri Mutiara. – May 12, 2018.
