SABAH’S current Chief Minister Musa Aman went ahead and chaired his first cabinet meeting today as Parti Warisan Sabah prepared for its president, Shafie Apdal, to be sworn in tonight.
“I have no idea if he wants to resign, as the first cabinet meeting was held. How can the head of state swear in two chief ministers?” he said at the State Administative building in Likas, Kota Kinabalu, today.
Musa, the state Barisan Nasional chairman, was sworn in on Thursday night and announced his cabinet the following day. His bid for the chief minister post became possible after Jeffrey, the president of Sabah Star party, threw his support behind Musa, giving him the numbers he needed to be sworn in.
But since then, four Umno assemblymen have joined Warisan while two Upko assemblymen and another BN rep from Parti Bersatu Rakyat have aligned themselves with the party.
Warisan now has a 36-seat majority in the Sabah legislative assembly, giving Shafie the confidence of the majority to form the state government.
BN has 26 state seats.
Istana Negeri officials were at Shafie’s house this afternoon where he signed some documents before the palace representatives.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking confirmed that Shafie’s swearing-in ceremony will take place at Istana Negeri at 9pm.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to visit Shafie tonight after the latter is sworn in.
Jeffrey said this would be inappropriate as federal leaders should not interfere in state matters. – May 12, 2018.
