UMNO vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein said he supports a change of party leadership, adding his voice to growing calls for party president Najib Razak to step down following the party’s crushing defeat in the general election.
The Sembrong MP and former defence minister tweeted this afternoon that the process of leadership change must, however, be done in an orderly manner.
“I am in agreement with the opinion of members and the public that Umno needs new leadership and that it be done in an orderly manner so that the party can regain its honour and principles,” he tweeted this afternoon.
Hishammuddin is now the most senior party leader to have voiced support for Najib’s removal, following calls by Umno Youth exco members.
Umno won 54 out of Barisan Nasional’s overall 79 parliamentary seats in GE14. – May 12, 2018.
