PARTI Warisan Sabah chief Shafie Apdal will be sworn in as chief minister later today, barely 48 hours after Barisan Nasional rival Musa Aman was sworn in.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking confirmed the ceremony will take place at Istana Negeri at 9pm tonight, adding that Musa should know by now that he had lost the backing of the majority of the state’s assemblymen.
Yesterday, four Umno assemblymen joined Warisan and twoUpko assemblymen pledged their allegiance to Warisan. Last night, another BN rep from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah aligned himself with Warisan.
Warisan now has a 36-seat majority, as opposed to BN’s 26 seats.
“Musa should do the most gentlemanly thing and resign as chief minister as he already knows by now that he no longer holds the majority,” Leiking said as he was leaving Shafie’s house at Taman Golfview in Kota Kinabalu today.
“We don’t want a repeat of the 1985 incident where there were two chief ministers-in-waiting.”
Earlier, Musa was said to have visited Istana Negeri at 10am, supposedly to dissolve his state cabinet.
Musa, who is also Sabah BN chief, is due to call for press conference later today. – May 12, 2018.
