SARAWAKIANS today vented on social media their anger at any plan to get Barisan Nasional representatives in the state to join Pakatan Harapan.
There was outcry over reports that Sarawak Governor Taib Mahmud had held a secret meeting with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Kuala Lumpur to discuss a plan for state BN parties to be brought into PH’s fold.
Social media users expressed their views on the Facebook pages of their parliamentary and state representatives, as well as on pages of pro-autonomy groups and in the comments section of online news articles.
“Don’t you even think of accepting any pleas from this gang of robbers to join Pakatan. Let them beg on their knees, crying tears of blood. Before this, they (Sarawak BN) were not playing around, attacking PH’s manifesto. Now you want to lick your own saliva,” said CaniceKievf Farrer.
“They have plotted for years to steal billions from the Sarawakian people. Form a commission to investigate corruption. Catch them and stuff the jails with those people found to be corrupted.”
Pearl Wang said Sarawakians who had voted for PH rejected BN.
“Tun Mahathir and PH have promised us that they want to do away with these evil deeds and we believe in him and his team. If PH accepts them into its fold, it means PH is going to allow them to perpetuate corruption, cronyism and plunder the wealth of the state at the expense of the rakyat. This is making a mockery of the voting system. We are the ones who should determine our future and not the politicians.”
Facebook reader Leon Moch Dear wrote: “If I wanted the same BN leaders to be in power, I would have voted for BN. I object to having BN leaders we voted against being repackaged as PH and presented to the rakyat as their (not so) new leader.”
Luruthudass Annaniah said: “All the corrupted Sarawak BN party members must be punished. No to BN, especially the PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) members. They have taken the rights of the Dayak community.”
Kb Liew said: “Sleeping with your enemies is risky. Sleeping with enemies who are habitual thieves or kleptocracs, you’ll b dead certainly!”
Thom Begri Robert Lau wrote: “We Dayak and Sarawakians do not want to see Taib and Co join PH as they have plundered and robbed us (of) our land our resources and now they want to join PH as they know they are doomed as BN and PBB. Time has come to get rid of them once and for all. And send them to prison.”
Sarawak First wrote: “PBB is the epitome of corruption and dysfunction which we are working so tirelessly to get rid of. To come into the fold of PH would really make us all a laughing stock and our efforts a mockery. I say let’s annihilate PBB in the upcoming state election. Let them keep or restrict their movements to the rural jungle outposts. And over time, they will cease to exist as no more kangtao (monetary benefits) from the federal government.”
Bobby N Rafiq told Sarawak BN to stay independent if they wanted to leave BN.
“People voted for you people, believing that you people were Barisan. Then stick to it. If you need to pull out of Barisan, stay independent. Why would you want to join PH? I think PH needs to think (things) through; the reason I voted PH, because I despised PBB and this Tok Uban (Taib). The reason I voted PH because I believe in fairness and better politics. If you accept corrupt leaders from PBB, hey, what’s new then? Same old, same old.
“We need a good opposition, like Barisan Nasional for checks-and-balances. If everyone joins one party, we’d accumulate too much power. Too much power isn’t good. History showed us that, before.”
Sarawak BN comprises PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP, which collective won 19 parliamentary seats in GE14.
If the parties leave BN, it would mean the former ruling coalition would only be left with 60 parliamentary seats nationwide, while PH would hold 141 out of 222 seats in parliament. – May 12, 2018.
