THERE is a growing chorus among Umno Youth members calling for their president Najib Razak to step down.
Kedah Umno Youth chief Shaiful Hazizy started the ball rolling, the Johor Youth chief followed suit and now a Youth exco has joined the chorus.
Youth exco Armand Azha Abu Hanipa said the former prime minister was responsible for Umno and Barisan Nasional’s loss in GE14.
“We demand and urge Najib to relinquish his position as Umno president for the sake of Umno.
“This is not because we hate you but because the party is more important and the survival of the party is our priority,” Armand said in a statement.
He also urged the old leadership in Umno to give way to the younger leaders to take the party forward.
“We love Umno and we want Umno to be relevant in the future,” Armand said.
Johor Youth chief Hahasrin Hashim also called for Najib’s resignation, blaming him for Johor falling to Pakatan Harapan.
“We urge Najib to resign as Umno president and that new faces be given room to bring improvement to Umno,” he said in a statement.
The party’s Kedah Youth wing made similar demands in a statement today.
Umno turns 72 today and is marking the occasion with a quiet dinner at its headquarters at PWTC.
A fight had broken out among party members when a group of youths tried to speak to the press and were prevented by other party members. – May 11, 2018.
