A SCUFFLE broke out tonight between Umno members at the entrance of Menara Dato Onn at Putra World Trade Centre today, when several of the party’s Youth members tried to talk to the press.

Other party members chased the youths away before they could speak, however.

Several policemen nearby brought the situation under control, with the youths leaving the area in the end.

It is learnt the youths had wanted to call for the resignation of party president  Najib Razak.

Kedah and Terengganu Umno Youth chiefs had issued statements earlier today calling for Najib to step down. Party Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin had said Umno needed to rebuild itself.

Earlier in the evening, more than 1,000 Umno members had gathered at the Umno HQ to mark the party’s 72nd anniversary.

Najib and Supreme Council members recited prayers before dinner was served. It was a sombre affair with Najib omitting to make a speech after a press conference and going straight up after dinner. When asked what was discussed he said: “It was just a normal session.”

Vice-Presidents Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Hishammuddin Hussein, info chief Annuar Musa, Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Jamil Khir Baharom, Mustapha Mohamed and Noh Omar were in attendance.

Notable absentees were Khairy and Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil. – May 11, 2018.
