NEWLY sworn-in Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir is confident of leading a stable government.

The Bersatu Deputy chairman said the odds are “close to nil” of PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN) forming an alliance.

“They basically are not able to come together (to create a hung assembly),” he said at a press conference at TH Hotel in Alor Setar.

In the 14th general election, Kedah PH led by Mukhriz won 18 of the 36 seats in the state legislative assembly with PAS winning 15 and BN 3.

Kedah PKR chief Johari Abdul has said the sultan has the ultimate power to decide who will govern the Kedah state if there is an hung state assembly.

On talk BN and PAS assemblymen may defect to PH,  Mukhriz said the coalition is open to the idea.

“We have formed the government and I’m already MB.

“So we are not desperate but we are open to that possibility.”

“The odds are nil for them to come together (to create a hung assembly) because they are not able to.”

On the appointment of state excos, Mukhriz said Pakatan Harapan top leaders will decide the candidates.

Mukhriz was sworn in at the Istana Anak Bukit before Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah this evening. – May 11, 2018.
