Bersih to continue to expose electoral fraud in GE14

The Malaysian Insight

ELECTORAL watchdog Bersih 2.0 will continue to bring to light incidents of fraud and abuse of power in the 14th general election even though Pakatan Harapan has won, its acting chairman Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said today.

“Bersih 2.0 has made many exposes through press conferences and media statements before and during GE14.

“We concluded on May 6 that GE14 was not clean, not free, and not fair even before polling day (on May 9),” Shahrul told Malaysia Decides.

He said attempts to manipulate the election outcome by cheating were thwarted by the high voter turnout.

“We are compiling incidents reported to pemantau.org.

“Counting agents have started to lodge police reports on the returning officers’ refusals to sign Form 14,” he said.

The returning officer’s signature is required on Form 14  to validate the vote count.

Shahrul said Bersih 2.0 would also continue to advocate for electoral reform under the PH government.

“Bersih 2.0 is free, independent and non-partisan. Although the players have changed, the (political) system still needs to be reformed.

“Efforts to advocate for institutional reforms, fair and clean elections must continue.

“We’ll continue to grow and play an active role. The people will decide. Bersih 2.0 is a people’s movement.”

Shahril said he hoped for better cooperation from the new federal government led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Bersih 2.0 adviser Hishamuddin Rais said the arbitrary disqualification of PKR vice-president Tian Chua and PKR’s Rantau candidate Dr S Streram were clear examples of cheating.

“We’ll expose all this and more,” he said. – May 11, 2018.
