New challenges arise for BN-led Sarawak govt

The Malaysian Insight

THE Sarawak government is slowly getting a taste of what it’s like to be an opposition-led state.

The Kuching office of the Information Department has suddenly stopped issuing the daily “Note to Editors” to all media.

The note, better known as the NTE, details daily public engagements of the chief minister, ministers, assistant ministers and federal ministers.

The department is a federal agency.

“Yes, they have stopped,” a source in the Chief Minister’s Office told Malaysia Decides.

“Except for notification of events attended by the chief minister and the TYT (governor), they are no longer giving notice about ministers and assistant ministers.

“They’re following what happened in Penang and Selangor many years ago,” the source said.

Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Cheng Loi Hee said the department was no longer issuing the note, adding he publicised Abang Johari Openg’s public engagements on Sunday and Monday through WhatsApp and social media.

The department has yet to officially detail its new operating procedures under a Pakatan Harapan federal government. – May 11, 2018.
