ANWAR Ibrahim will not be released today, daughter Nurul Izzah said, amid reports the de facto PKR leader would be freed from jail today.
She told Malaysia Decides she did not know when her father would be free.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil confirmed Anwar would not be released today.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today the Agong was ready to pardon Anwar, whose sentence ends on June 8.
Dr Mahathir said the King conveyed his views to him during a meeting after his swearing-in ceremony at Istana Negara, yesterday night.
A pardon will allow Anwar to participate in politics once more, Dr Mahathir told reporters today.
A royal pardon is at the discretion of the king, currently the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
Anwar was jailed in 2015 for sodomising his assistant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. – May 11, 2018.
