Pakatan leaders to meet Perak sultan this afternoon

The Malaysian Insight

PAKATAN Harapan’s state leaders in Perak are meeting state ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah this afternoon to inform him of the results of GE14 and seek his advice on the current stalemate in Perak.

PH Perak chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu told Malaysia Decides they were still one seat short of having a simple majority of at least 30 seats to form the state government.

“I have to work harder,” said Faizal, who is also the newly elected Tambun MP and Chenderiang state assemblyman.

With 29 seats, PH won the most seats in the 59-seat state assembly.

Barisan Nasional-Umno won 27 seats and PAS three seats, in one of the closest fights in Perak’s electoral history.

The situation places PAS as the kingmaker.

Curiously, BN-Umno declared in a press conference last night it had secured a simple majority to form a state government and would seek an audience with the state ruler, without substantiating how it was able to do so.

Perak DAP advisor and Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham said PAS did not turn up for the press conference because BN could not meet PAS’ terms.

Neither Perak BN chief Zambry Abd Kadir, nor deputy chief Saarani Mohamad, or any of the three elected PAS assemblymen were present at the BN press conference last night.

Perak’s PAS leaders are still undecided whether to form a state government with BN or PH.

PAS’ state commissioner Razman Zakaria is in Terengganu today to meet the party’s central leadership to discuss and resolve the stalemate in Perak. – May 11, 2018.
