FREEING the media will be one of Pakatan Harapan’s top priorities as soon as the cabinet list is settled, PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar said today.

The Permatang Pauh lawmaker said the new government promised to give more freedom to the press by abolishing the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

“It’s been my commitment to ensure that the media is free and fair in this country.

“We’re talking about a new era that celebrates truth and allows fair criticism to construct the country’s future government to prosper,” Nurul Izzah said outside Yayasan Al-Bukhary.

The PKR vice-president also said she would push the government to set up a media council.

PH is having a meeting with top leaders from four parties chaired by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The other leaders include PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and presidential council member Saifuddin Nasution, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and organising secretary Anthony Loke.

Saifuddin said Dr Mahathir was chairing a special meeting with Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun. – May 11, 2018.
