ONE-TIME Internal Security Act detainee Mohamad Sabu is most likely to be appointed as home minister, a highly placed Pakatan Harapan source said today.
The Parti Amanah Negara chief is a trusted ally of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who wants the veteran politician in the post.
“He will ensure some of the PH promises are implemented quickly by the new administration,” said the source, who did not want to be named.
Mohamad Sabu, or Mat Sabu as he is popularly known, was detained twice during his time with PAS, and had consistently championed police reform.
He won the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency in the recently concluded 14th general election.
Dr Mahathir assumed the position of Malaysia’s seventh prime minister.
The PH council is meeting today to discuss cabinet appointments. – May 11, 2018.
