PARTI Warisan Sabah leaders, in particular Shafie Apdal, have been “robbed” of leading the state government of Sabah, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Sabah BN chief Musa Aman was sworn-in as chief minister yesterday night, after STAR reneged on its promise to form a coalition government with Warisan and chose instead to align itself with Barisan Nasional.
“I’m sorry about Sabah,” Dr Mahathir said at his first press conference as prime minister at Sheraton Hotel, Petaling Jaya, yesterday night.
“Apparently they (the Election Commission) did a first count, and Warisan obtained 32 or 33 seats and then they did a rcount and another recount and the figure came down to 29 and now there is an attempt to buy over some of the winners so that the previous government can set up a state government.
“(So) they have been robbing Shafie of being recognised as the winner and therefore as the candidate for the chief ministership of Sabah.
“This is very unfortunate, because I know Shafie has tremendous support from the people,” Dr Mahathir said.
Sabah BN and Warisan each won 29 state seats but BN was able to achieve a simple majority with the addition of STAR’s two state seats.
It is learnt Musa and Shafie had attempted to get to the palace to be sworn-in as the chief minister earlier yesterday. – May 11, 2018.
